  1. I’m so sorry that you got scammed. Another YouTuber, Haley Dasovich, got scammed by a taxi driver at the airport too. The taxi driver was arrested, and hopefully the police will be able to stop these scammers. Ever since Grab and Uber entered the scene, it seems like only criminals are left driving taxis.

    1. Mate.. What can he do, he’s not the one driving the taxi?! If the driver doesn’t want to let them leave he’s got all the power. Are you so stupid not to understand that?

    2. I allowed myself to get scammed ( stayed quite even I witnessed the meter rates kept jumping…). I was not gonna waste my energy for a few dollars. Finally, i got back to them by using Grab whenever possible. Grab advantages: (if private vehicles) they tend to be better/newer rides, you can see the fare ahead of time and can decide whether to go for it or not, traceability of stolen/lost/left items is a
plus, and much safer since the infos are there on display (you can go one step further by taking a screen shot of the display and “save it to phone”or send to your friend/family). Just my three cents.

    3. SupaNami You’re very rude..? You just sit on your huge couch and watch your porn collection everyday… Why should we believe you. You don’t belong here.

    1. In a lot of asian countries, drivers tend to not stop for pedestrians. They just keep on driving with no care for people walking across the streets

    2. not all pedestrian lane here got that signal. but drivers must keep in their minds that there is a pedestrian lane. they should/must drive slowly or stop but they dont.

  2. Visiting the Philippines is a lesson in survival. Don’t get me wrong, people and food are usually good, but there’s that one guy that can just ruin your day. Also plumbing is an issue in most places.

    1. Apt215 Melissa Brown.. wherever you are in the world.. there are places which are crowded and the living conditions are worst especially in the slum areas.. if you focus only on those slum areas in the Philippines.. believe me you will be disappointed.. but the truth of the fact is that every country has a place for those less privilege people even in your country..am I right?? those places are only a fraction of a big picture of the Philippines.. so if you want to visit our country.. don’t spend much time in Manila..go further south in Visayas or further north to Bagiuo where you can find big, beautiful and clean cities.. In those places.. you will experience the reality and richness of our culture. ..

    2. Guys it is understandable there are assholes in each and every country, but it is a matter of frequency of occurrence, i mean just within a short time span two youtubers got scammed? Even the friend of my niece who is a british teenager were also scammed last year and i have to guide her to download grab to avoid a repeat. It is sometimes too many. There are nations worst than philippines but do we have to settle for not being the worst scammers instead of trying to eliminate them, but i guess it is easier to attack the people with opinion than solve problems.

    3. @ brebreboo lardoo
“And our beaches are clearest beach around the world. We’re the middle of the sea idiot think first become you comment.”

Hahaha, do you want to reiterate that now when Boracay is shut down because of pollution?

    4. Minsetti we have clear beaches and waters when filipino haven’t got any chance to touch it yet, but look at manila bay, or pasig river, a perfect example of how filipino could destroy nature. There is is country that kind of mind boggling for me, river in the middle of the city yet clear as some of our beaches, how could they do that? And why we can’t?

    5. Apt215 Melissa Brown in manila no fish is safe, but we are an archipelago and there are many clean island with clear waters and healthy marine life, philippines is not just Manila, it is only one of thousand places here.

  3. 7:00 P2,300 per passenger. He even laminated that fake rate sheet. LOL! It should not cost more than P200 for all of you. Charging at least 11 times more! WTF! Did you manage to take down the taxi driver’s license plate and info? Another taxi driver was on the news recently for charging P500 for a ride which should have only cost P250 and got his taxi impounded. Your taxi driver is much, much worse!

    1. rivenade
It happens with taxis, some “sikads”, some tricycles, some “habal-habals” and even some jeepneys at times.

  4. Sorry you got scammed. I’m Filipino but prefer to use Uber/Grab instead. Prices are still horrendous on peak hours but at least you’ll have options and can have an informed choice.

Thank you for reporting the taxi to the police.

  5. The thing is taxi drivers scam tourist in every country not just the phillipines, even in new York u get scammed by taxi drivers nothing new

  6. Sad to see you scammed while basically promoting the country and its highlights. This short term gain mentality is holding back a beautiful country with beautiful people. Very sad!

  7. It irritates me that some people here think they know a lot about the Philippines just because of what they read in the news or just because of what they watch here on Youtube. Scam happens EVERYWHERE! There are bad people EVERYWHERE! It does not matter where you’re from! This is why racism and discrimination exist because people are so quick to judge and refuse to give chance.

If you haven’t been here in the Philippines then I suggest you shut your mouth and keep your unnecessary judgments to yourself.

    1. Oh yes, there are bad elements in ANY OTHER PLACE. Kahit yata sa Antarctica!!
The better thing to do is to inform yourself about the place you’re going.

  8. Taxi scams happen mostly in populated areas like Manila. In other areas it’s safer but mostly around airports. I’m a Filipino but I also get scammed, not in the way Mikey did, the cab driver drove around and around our hotel, racking up the pesos and the moment he stopped in front of the hotel we ran inside immediately to inform the front desk. We didn’t pay his bogus amount and instead went directly inside, he didn’t wait around and immediately drove away when he saw us running inside. Basically speaking, he lost money.

    1. winterwolf211 cebu is also terrible my friend paid 500peso per person so total 1500peso only going to 7 eleven which was 3mints distance…manila and cebu taxi drivers are crazy

    2. I am glad you posted this winterwolf211..usually my Filipino just screams at the taxi driver in Tagalog and she says STOP THIS CAB and storms out without paying them either..me as an naive German America love the Philippines but you just have to beware that there is scams everywhere…even in the Philippines..lol

    1. Filipino ako, hindi po lahat ng filipino mabait overpopulation po tayo tapos daming masasamang tao lalo na jan sa manila bat kasi yan pa naging capital city natin lol

  9. That’s horrible. There is actually a free bus to go to another terminal in the airport. I also didn’t know about it in the past, but now I always use the bus to go to a different terminal because it’s safer.

    1. That’s kind of a silly reason to not travel. Just be super careful, use things that are familiar to you (uber, ect) don’t go alone and remember you’re not obligated to pay.

    2. Do your homework before you travel & take all precautions. All countries have their downsides, you just need to be wary.

    3. FOGS – Fear of getting scammed. You should do a vlog of how scammers work in every country, if no one has done it yet. Good luck!!

  10. Im so sorry Michael for that scam. They caught him and he will no longer be driving anyone. Also got 2 cabs impounded from the company by the government and the company will no longer be serving in that airport. Thanks for reporting it by doing the right thing even if it is very difficult to do.

  11. Got scammed? Normal everywhere in Asian countries. Obviously the driver didn’t think you looked like Jackie Chan.. LMAO ?

  12. Just terrible @ taxi driver! Sorry you experienced that. I also was scammed when I first arrived and didn’t know any better. It does look like based on these Philippine vlogs you enjoyed which is awesome! Next time you come to Manila we definitely MUST hang out! I will take you around and we WON’T BE SCAMMED! Cheers, Mikey!

    1. Taxi driver got arrested. His taxi impounded by the LTFRB and can be released by paying 120k pesos.

    2. Yeah i also agree with others who comment. 2 mike is GO GO GO!!! Hope we can see both of you together here in Philippines and experience another gastronomical adventure.

  13. This video made it to national news in the Philippines. Thanks for bringing it out and helping fellow travelers. Just like anywhere in the world, you got to be careful. Also knowing someone to show you around definitely helps, I can tell that you’re just scratching the surface of what the Philippines can give you, as of the other countries you have visited.
