https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_of_Kurdish_people_in_Turkey
the problem is Western people judge people on their appearance and cloths and that is y they fall in this scam easily
so western people should be more distrustful of brownies? ok den.
I don’t think that’s what Smart Guy said there’s no reason to turn it in other way. Some people will be good looking, clean dress, clean teeth, a kind attitude, it’s always easier to lower your guard around them. But if you’re a foreigner, an environment where it’s different, keep your guard at all times. Even if they would appear to be the best person in earth.
Yes it said on the label 10 leera and then they said oh no it is meant to be £10 and then my dad started laughing soooooo hard and then he started laughing and then after that my dad walked away and turned back and said no and then they said ok ok 10 leera so that’s a tip because it worked wherever we went .
You learned what is turkey ?
Bullshit. I read the newspapers and learn regularly that people get scammed in spite of the police intervening. They may close one bar, another one opens. I until recently used to go to Taksim and used to hear that they are still heavily scamming people, especially Arabs. They cahoot at least with some elements of the police. Watch “TE on TV”‘s video of the bar scam in Istanbul, the police raids the bar but does not do anything.
Dikran you read newspapers. Haha. Spiking? Turkey isnt thailand you muppet. The only dodgy people in turkey are the taxi drivers. Turkey is very safe and to think the police does not care is a lie from yourself. If you use logic youl be fine but there are dodgy people all over the world. So dont act as if Turkey is a dodgier then other countries because its not
şahin her toplumun iyi ve kötü bireyleri vardır, cehaletten dolayı genelleme yapıp kendi geldikleri yere bakmaksızın yurdumuzun insanlarını karalayanların ekmeğine yağ sürmek Türkiye’de de yaşasan yurt dışında da emin ol sana bir şey kazandırmayacak
Did you experience all of the stuff you mentioned above?
I feel so bad for the tourists that visit Turkey. As a citizen, ive never experienced what you mentioned above. About the grand bazaar you are right. Its a place where tourist are being fooled. Any Turkish citizen would shop from the grand bazaar, its just not a thing. I would go there to buy tea maybe because there are more options, but again it happened only once in my life 😀 other than that, we once went for buying jewelries for my aunts wedding. That’s it. So, if u are tourist, do what Turkish people do. Secondly, go shopping with a Turkish person.:D
YOU ARE SO FUNNY MATE LMFAO HAHA LOL ROFL
A native is unlikely to encounter these scams, frauds, as a tourist would. Would be wrong to compare it in this way.
@Guvench Erdjan, I doubt it. They are some sort of mafia who cahoot with the police so you may as well be in trouble even if you are a native. Personally I wouldn’t go to such places.
@Guvench Erdjan For the locals there is another scam : Pakistanis do it in a car in Istanbul. That happened to a guy I knew years ago and myself I was apparently spotted on a busy avenue one day while I was going back and forth. They will show you a wad of cash and ask to see the color of such or such banknote and if you show them what you have they will steal your money while examining/counting them. But me I just told them I had no money! One should see the face of the scammer at that particular moment!
I’m Turkish but I live in London, when I go to turkey it really annoys me when I go into a shop and the worker there always comes up to you and tries to help you..forcing/convincing you basically to buy something and it’s really annoying. They don’t give you space
Yas G sameeee I’m Turkish and in London it annoys me so much
Evet Londrada da var oyle tesgahtarlar. Gotunden ayrilmiyorlar adamin. Aradigin zamanda adam yok.
Adama sadece bakınıyorum dediğin zaman %90 peşini bırakıyorlar
I was in Cancun Mexico. How the shop owners force you to buy is ridiculous.
2000 dong = 8 cent
Khalid, granted 2000 dong (8 cents) is nothing really , but it’s the principal 8 cents or 80 dollars it’s your hard earned money and your being ripped off , and if the taxi drivers are doing this to all or most tourists it soon adds up for the scammer!
Whoever falls for the drink scam deserves getting stuck with the bill. Drinking with someone you just met, especially when abroad is never a good idea.
El Güero Tamaulipeco … Drinking scam offer more than drink.. So people go to dark street with scammers.. They Ussually offer Russian prostitute or illegal drug.
I lived in Istanbul for my entire life and not once have i heard someone getting scammed as in, the person invites you to a bar and chugs all the drinks and escapes. Plus I have American family as well who visit every now and than, who stay for relatively long periods of time, those people were never scammed or even asked something like this as well. We had exchange students in both high school and university with whom I made good friends with. Still never heard someone that had that incident. So please don’t try to enforce your biased opinion here. The taxi thing is something else though. There are a lot of scammers when it comes to that, best way to avoid it is to not use the airport taxi and preferably download the “bitaxi” app from the airport wi-fi at the instance of landing. The price tag will be predetermined and the drivers are much nicer as well.
@Lichugunti Bantha
No this is real, if you stay away from İstiklal Avenue and Taksim you will probably be safe. But I met an American businessman one night while I was going to Taksim and he told me that exact story, it is a classic scam. A poor guy came to ask him for food . He was in a good mood he offered him a lunch and that poor guy took him to a night club and at the end of the day they gave him a bill of $450 but he ended up paying something like $1000 or a bit more. And he still thought the “poor guy” was not involved in the scam. What is strange is that the scammers do not accept dollars and accompany you to the ATM. I wonder why… I asked him: “was there a woman at your table?”, he answered “yes” so a classic type of scam. The only way you can escape is to pull your gun and shoot them, there is no other way or they may stab or shoot you. That happened even to a local young guy a few years ago and he died. An Iranian last year was stabbed to death because he refused to pay the exaggerated bill. A local guy who tried to help a scammed foreign person was attacked and wounded last year. They are a mafia. That type of scam has been happening at least for tens of years. Read the newspapers regularly you will hear about it. The police does not care… unfortunately. Tourists need to go to major hotels (Hilton, Kempinsky, Intercontinental, etc.) even though they are expensive.
Well after doing research for a while it turned out that it does exist. However I’m still not convinced that it is very common. Those clubs/businesses have to be forced to shut down, apparently this is a common scam in a lot of other parts of the world as well. At least, lesson learned.
Another one, especially around the ferry landings in Istanbul: The shoe shine guys will knock their brushes off of their wooden boxes to get tourists for an overpriced shoe shine. Unsuspecting tourists will tell the guy he dropped his brush and next thing you know you’re paying 25₺ for a half assed shoe shine haha.
El Güero Tamaulipeco we had the same experience and we ran away right after he proposed his services cause we knew something was wrong.
omg that happened to me, about a year ago right on the galata bridge hahaha
and i spend so much time in istanbul, have even worked there, know it so well but when he dropped the brush I instinctively picked it up and gave it back, next moment hes already shining my shoes and there goes 20 lira..
never until now did I realise that this was a trick that they often do!
Hahaha happened to me! Should’ve watched these videos before my trip, not after ? but other than that, experienced hospitable, great people.
another taxi driver scam is changing real money that you give them with fake money
and they say this money is fake bro
Wherever I go, I try to be careful and pay attention to my stuff in case of pickpocketing etc and I agree with your list 😀
This babe is hot
ash anaz dude no
nop
Avoid Turkey, just don’t do it. And say this being a friend with many Turks and having visited Turkey a couple of times. It is too much hassle, you will have to be always alert. Plus, you will be supporting an islamist semi-dictator as of now.
He’s not a dictator per se, but as a Turkish person I would recommend you take the “I live here” vibe instead of the tourist vibe. What you’re saying is true (the hassle part), I’ve gotten my phone stolen around 4 times in Istanbul and I grew up there. Anyway, when you go outside of istanbul, people will help you, help you out, invite you over for a family dinner, etc. And I suppose your friends told you about all that, but still. I wish they were a little bit more optimistic of the current government and state of Turkey, because they should be. I hope you continue visiting, and am sorry if you had a bad time the last time.
Have you ever been Turkey, no right :D, just talking based on western media 😀
Keep your opinion to yourself, Turkey has historical sites that many people want to visit. Just don’t go, no one cares if you go or not. you are one person
Turkey is nothing in terms of scams. I did have some creepers approach me but the brush off works for me. Tunisia, Argentina, and any country with high concentrations of Roma or migrant West Africans make Turkey a cakewalk.
ContrarianExpatriate true to that
I visit istanbul almost every year.. and it’s getting worse every time
Abdulaziz SF. That is true man. A beautifull city with shitty people in centrum
Yeah shitty assholes, i can tell
To be honest it gets worsr becausr of your syrian brothers. Our trouble was enough for us and now arabic fellas are adding more. I would be really glad if you think its shitty and decide not to visit. Thank you
Yup Scams are a global phenomena.
The taxi scam happened to me in Rome, I paid 40 euros for a ride from the Colosseum to the Boscolo Exedra and it should have been just under 10 euros. I paid it and have been kicking myself since for not speaking up.
I have visited Turkey more than 3 times but never even once i faced something like you mentioned in the video. i find this offensive towards turkish people you portrayed them wrong. they are such lovely people
IBM Vrc – Boktan insanlarsiniz 🙂
@Metsada007
Beyoğlu lağımlarından yazıyor herhalde.
ISIS Member – Arab countries are much worse. Islam must cease to exist if those countries are going to become civilized. Death to Islam.
Metsada007 which arab country is worse?? Also death to pig eating infidels
You are American, its a hobby for other countries to scam Americans……. Jk xD lol
George Saluto Girsang its true tho
Yeah, they scam the entire planet with their overpriced goods such as iPhones etc. 😉 A revenge ?
Lol ?
They also scam Arabs, other Muslims, the nationality does no matter in fact.
Act like an angry poor person and no one will try to scam you in Turkey. A, they will think they won’t get anything by scamming you, because you look/act poor. B, they will not want to mess with you because you might fight them.
Just don’t dress up like you’re going to a wedding and don’t smile at everyone like you’re life long friends. Treat strangers like strangers, and dress and act modestly.
I visited Istanbul 2 years ago, alone. And nothing bad happened. In fact I felt safer there than anywhere here in the US. And I was not approached by not a single person. I am going back in August and I am so excited.
Be careful,
Just because nothing happend, doesn’t means it won’t. And since you came, Dollar or Euro, whichever you are using is more valuable right now. So be sure to check out those before you come. Other than that, have safe travels. ^^
