Description: "A weird accident caused by an erratic van driver who attempted to blame me for running into the back of him. When I informed him I had a dash cam he changed his story and claimed he was attempting to avoid a dog (there is no dog). I called the police and he jumped in his van and took off without giving me his details. Please note the pre existing damage to the vehicle. If anyone knows this person I'd be keen to pass his details onto the Sandringham Police. FYI my vehicle is just over a week old and has only minor damage to the powder coating on the bullbar." Thanks to Chris

    1. David Riley ● You’re 100% correct, David. When you tell someone you have them on video, it just opens the door to having them do (who knows what) to get ahold of your camera.

    2. You know that still doesn’t end up being a charge of insurance fraud. You have to go through with the accident, go through court, and then show your video. That’s the only way you can truly punish the criminal with insurance fraud, and this makes the whole issue so much more complicated than it needed to be for yourself. DON”T keep the footage a secret, just tell the cops during the scene of the accident. it’s not worth it to make yourself suffer just so you can punish the other guy later. That’s just plain petty and spiteful.

    3. BS Keep the cam a secret! Then they get all the charges and insurance fraud and THEIR rates go thru the roof! Burn these clowns.

You can often in many ares get reimbursed for your time too.

  1. I think you shouldn’t tell them about the dashcam. Allow them to file a fraudulent insurance claim and suffer the consequences.

    1. Let’s be real though, not telling will just make things more complicated. It’s a very spiteful thing to go through all that trouble just so you can make sure the other guy is more heavily punished. Providing evidence during the accident to the police will resolve the issue in the most easiest way possible. Don’t listen to these commenters saying you should keep the footage secret. That’s just selfish and does not make you any more morally correct.

    2. I don’t get it. what would this get out of the scam?
a repair to the rear of his car?
      he’s not making money
      not getting a new car

    3. You can actually get in legal trouble if you don’t tell a responding officer about the dash cam because there have been cases where people claim the footage is edited..

    1. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Now he’s TOTALLY gonna get fired and have to pay out double the damages, to the van and the cammers car, all out of pocket because once insurance gets this video, CLAIM REJECTED!

    2. I hope insurance covers the damage, for the cam car’s sake – then takes this crook to the cleaners for the full amount.

  2. His approach lacks the grace and subtlety of the folks who stop in the middle of a crosswalk and take a swan-dive onto your hood. #moreeffortrequired

    1. If the guy were Jim Carrey and the van was from Dumb & Dumber, it would’ve been less sketchy and more entertaining.

    2. If someone did that to me i’d speed up, stop when I hit them, back up, run them over, and then run over their “witness”

    3. Have to agree with you Jim if I remember correctly from my school swimming days the dive in question is called a Plain English Header.

    1. Hez Well, if his financial court cases get worse for him, he’ll be crashing on the couches of whatever pals he has left…

  3. Forgive me . But what do you gain from doing this . I’ve been hit before and all that happens is their insurance covers cost to fix my car . I don’t get any payout to me personally. So what’s the point in doing this ?

    1. Stephanie Broadwater Steph you must be fucking joking these fuckwit a are just scanning for money they should be in jail

    2. Dog broke free our fault fair enough, got hit by car, small mark to front right had side, woman got entire right hand panel repainted by the highest quote tendered, we had to pay. Was told it could have easily been done for less than a third of the price, ironically the driver was a work colleague of my then wife.
      This was in New Zealand.

    3. Michael Wilson: It’s illegal to drive without auto insurance. Exactly how much is “shitloads of money” If you’re found at fault in a crash you could be sued for millions with no insurance company to fight it out and pay it off. Empty bank account, garnished wages and possible jail time for you! But of course, you’ll never get into that accident.

    4. “I don’t get any payout to me personally. So what’s the point in doing this ?”
The point is that you (as a scammer) are trying to coerce the driver “at fault” in giving your money directly.

  4. Eh, he’s got a number plate and a clear visual of the idiot. Leaving an accident scene when the cops are called is petty crime already on top of the fraud attempt, so he’s just making it worse for himself. Idiot.

    1. In the US, hit and run is a felony.

Hope they run so they can be charged with even more, since you have proof of who they are.
The more years they spend in prison, the more entertainment they can provide to other inmates.

  5. Never tell them you have a dashcam. Apologize for not paying attention, get their name and contact information, and tell them that you should get a police report for the insurance company so everything goes smoothly. Let them make a false statement to the police, and then show the police the video.

    1. This one time, my friend told me that her grandpa died of cancer, and I told her I was sorry, and then the police came and arrested me for giving her grandpa cancer.

    2. ytmndan yup, the main reason an apology is not an admission of fault is that 1) people in an imminent situation are high on adrenaline and not thinking objectively, their focus is less about legal liability and more about dealing with the situation at hand and 2) they often genuinely are sorry for what has happened, that doesn’t mean they’re responsible. What you definately shouldn’t say after a crash is “I was at fault” or “my error”, because that’s likely admissible. But a mere apology has no legal effect.

    3. Matthew Thompson – In a criminal case, you are correct. However in a civil case, the opposing attorney will question “Why would you have apologized if it wasn’t your fault?” Suddenly it could go either way.

    1. No Peter, you can check with either rego *or* VIN, don’t need both.

      Registration number: 188KBU
      Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): JTFHX02P400020008
      Description: 2007 TOYOTA HIACE VAN
      Purpose of use: PRIVATE
      Status: REGISTERED
      Expiry: 31/05/2018

    2. ᗰіɢнѕт ᗩʟʟ ᑕʀᴜᴄᴋіɴɢ ᖴіɢнту well that has him fucked!! Hopefully Nine News will see this @Ninenewsvic

  6. Props to the dash cam owner for not immediately cracking his skull, I don’t have that kind of restraint.

    1. I do have the restraint, but for cunts like this I would happily make an exception.

    2. Cerealkila Mike I can’t imagine what you would have done.
Plot twist, you had the restraint inside you all along, you just had to believe in yourself.
But it was too late, you spend your days in supermax for murder and you live the rest of your life making shanks out of soap.
Your autobiography will be published by penguin and the audio book will be read by a Morgan Freeman impersonator named Gorman Manfree to cut costs.

    1. Have their bank accounts cover the cost of the execution. If there isn’t enough someone in the family can afford it.

  7. What an idiot! Left indicator was just on. Camera picked up all the previous damage on the right side of the van which btw the owner hardly even reacts too. Massive reaction to the rear damage. Smile son you’re on camera lol?

  8. He just wanted the existing damage fixed from when he backed into the tree and you were the sucker which was smart enough to have a dashcam (good insurance against idiots like that)

    1. roadmonitoroz Brisbane By the way, I absolutely loved that vid from your truck with the young chick texting…so glad she got fined and maybe will think twice before texting in traffic. Then again I doubt it. Cheers
