Here are my top tips for avoiding travel scams in Europe

Hello travellers! Today I am talking from Barcelona and here to help you with some of my best tips to avoid those traveller scams that can happen to those travelling in Europe.

I have been affected by this first tip more than once and I am here to make sure you do not suffer the same fate. Banks have got a clever way in Europe when you are travelling from the United States or most other countries to charge you 2% or more on your credit or debit card transactions.

When you go to pay they will always ask if you would like to complete your transaction in Euros or your local currency where ever you are from. Make sure to accept your payments in Euros.

By doing this you make sure that the card companies do not charge you more for the act of processing the transaction (which can add 2% or more to your bill.) This is normally found in local business' or restaurants.

Visa or MasterCard will do the exchange of currency based on the current exchange rate with any transaction. So to avoid travel scams in Europe, I would advise to take all the fees than exchange the money because it will cost you more to exchange the money. I mentioned this in a previous video about travelling in Europe so make sure to go check that video out for all the information.

Another tip I always repeat to my friends or travelling companions is to be careful with children or people running around, if you feel anyone rush past you or come into contact with you in a crowded space to always check your pockets. Making sure you haven’t had anything taken from you and keep any valuables in a safe and secure place on your person.

I hope you enjoy this short video and any comments or experiences you may have had in Europe, please share below for others to see and start a conversation about staying safe in Europe. Always amazing to create a community of travellers that help each other out.
