    1. Michael Henoa…. Nah… I’ve seen cops booking tailgaters here in Oz…. & as *dockerification* said, it comes under dangerous driving / operating a vehicle in an unsafe manner!

    2. Ryan Plethra…. “if you’re being tailgated the passive aggressive move to piss them off is just to drive slow”…. Yeah, that’s what I do, & it’s exactly what the Commodore driver did at 0:19, but the cammer just took that as an invite to get even closer.
From the very beginning of the clip, it appears that the cammer is deliberately trying to piss the Commodore driver off, so I’m thinking that something happened before the clip starts…. & why is there is no audio?… was the cammer cursing the other driver & didn’t want it heard?!

    3. “the 3-4 second gap you should leave the car infront”
The rules state you should have 2 second gap to the car in front

    1. please do not ever drive a car on Australian roads, if you think that’s tail gaiting you’re clearly not in good health to drive. thank you.

    2. ESPSJ LOL! I have been driving for 10 years. And I’ve seen a lot when it comes to tailgating. You, my fried clearly don’t know how tailgating works. And from your words itself. You’re not in good health to drive. So you should not be driving in the first place. Cheers.

Lol what? Being 2 – 3 car lengths behind a car is tailgating? Or slowing to a stop at a light is tailgating? The only thing done wrong in this video is when the white car tried to reverse into him, and then slammed on his breaks intentionally to cause the collision, which is illegal pretty much everywhere.

    4. Devin Hansen Doesn’t matter if its 2 – 3 car lengths. As you can see in the first segment on the video. Why should he follow the driver of the white car? I could’ve change lane according to the video segment 0:41 to avoid suspicion. If he did that. He wouldn’t have this much of a problem. But according to the video. It seems like he’s looking for a pain. Which is why the dude on the white car reverse on him. I know what kind of attitude when it comes to aussies. And pretty much the driver of the dash cam owner is a person with a road rage in mind.

    5. So you agree, it’s not tailgating, you just think he should have changed lanes for some strange reason.

  1. Don’t see a 3 second gap at all throughout that whole clip. Sure, brake testing you wasn’t cool but neither is driving so close to someone. In a hurry to get to the next red light?

    1. 100kmh is 27 to 28 mps (Meters Per Second) . and in 3 seconds you’d travel a distance of 83 meters, but if ur following a car doing 100 and you are doing 100 a 3 second gap is roughly half a car length that means if u are 100% paying attention you have to slow down 9.2 mps (33km/h) every second to avoid hitting the car in front…

Lets say these guys were doing 16km/h (4.4 mps) in the 2 second gap the black car left he would travel 8.8 meters.. and giving that the average person takes 1.5 seconds to acknowledge a hazard and 1.5 to react completely in 2 seconds he would most likely have only lifted his foot off the accelerator.. which is why he went in the back of the commodore…
The 3 second rule is basic physics.. based on the (100% focused) average humans reaction time..

so now given those facts in the last 1.5 seconds if he was 3 seconds behind is where all of the 13 meters of stopping would happen.
but he only left 2 seconds so now in the remaining 0.5 seconds to which an actual implementation of the now realised hazard would occur he would have had to slow that 4.4 mps which is not possible with standard vehicle brakes..

race brakes yes but he wasnt in a race car..

    2. Gareth Simes no need for a 3 second gap pulling away from the lights.
if anything cars should be bunched tighter in slow traffic to get more cars through

  2. That’s not even tailgating you bunch of armchairs, the camera may appear close but that’s nowhere near close as the point of impact. The only time the black car was close to the commodore was when it was stationary at the lights and yet the gap opened up when traffic began to move. Furthermore, look at the distance between the Commodore and the car in front of it, it was clearly planned and timed out. After all, my take is, everyone else in this comment section who is calling out black cars fault might be an accomplice of the commodore after the black car driver pointed out he had a dash cam.

    1. Dennis Xu, i don’t think it’s a good idea for you to critique other people about OPENING their eyes and of course DRIVING.

  3. Black car was tailgating. Clearly the guy in the white Commodore was not amused with the hand gestures at the lights. Brake checked the black car who was now following way to close to react. Black cars fault. Don’t follow so close and this won’t happen.

Definitely not insurance fraud. Good luck trying to convince your insurance of that. They’ll lay blame on the black car.

Might want to change your title to
Reason why you shouldn’t tailgate a Commodore.

    1. but blocking by brake at the green light is way more dangerous and illegal, tailgate when in slow speed is not a big deal, but at some people would respond excessively.

    2. You are an idiot. During the majority of the travel they were going between 20 and 30 mph. There were two car lengths between them, not really tailgating. The only times they were closer is when the lowlife slowed for no reason.  Did you not see the lowlife put the car in reverse at 49 sec, and subsequently pull forward and then stop for no reason,  brake checking the other guy? It doesn’t matter if the other guy was too close since the lowlife intentionally caused the collision. Learn the law fool.

    3. RichardDJLilD now you just showing off… bloody 4 disk breaks..! I could only afford the one disk break, and have to rely upon one drum break and me jamming my legs through the floor of the car like Fred Flintstone to stop me buddy. It makes it very difficult to break check anyone

    4. Herbin’ Avenger stop calling people lowlife.. The car wasn’t even that low bro. I’ve seen a fully sick Commodore on the bump stops. Now that’s low.. looks even better if its a V6 and you got Chevy badges.Killa..

    5. It’s the white car’s fault because he stopped at a green light for no reason. No turn signal, no waiting for another car to pass, there was no reason to stop.

  4. yeah I wonder why there isn’t an audio supplied…. *insert eye roll

Looks like you’re driving up the dude’s arse the whole way – and given his gestures at the light, let me guess, you weren’t happy with the gap he left so you beeped, right?

    1. yeah agree, tailgated the whole way up from the police station to the turn off for the bridge.. looks like he deliberately rammed the guy in the commodore.

    2. RichardDJLilD… your right in in saying that dash cams distort distance…. but tend to make things look further away, which means that the cammer was a lot closer to the commodore than it appears in the clip.

    3. I keep the audio on my dashcam off. The audio of my daily driving is irrelevant in case of accident or incident..

  5. I’d be keen to see the footage that lead up to this as I don’t think this tells the full story.
What did you do to antagonise the SS driver?

    1. BRBingeDrinker triggered much? yeah it’s irrelevant to the legal argument, but it is relevant to whether or not this old dude needs to go back to drivers ed

  6. tailgating or not, I’m sure there was valid no reason for the guy in front to pull the brakes like that all of a sudden

    1. That’s false. If there’s footage like this of someone just spiking their brakes, they are clearly at fault. You learned it like that because not too many people are recording when this happens.

  7. He wasn’t tailgating and that was the lane to the westgate bridge. The fool in front slammed on his brakes when no danger in front.

    1. I don’t recall saying anything about eliminating all road deaths??? Did you actually read what I wrote especially the bit about other drivers making things go pear shaped?? You go on about some ludicrous position about nothing unsafe or illegal if you leave a large gap.

    2. “To kill another sacred cow, lowering speed limits does not eliminate road deaths.”

Thats a direct quote from your comment. do you even read what you wrote.

      You are missing my point.

You obviously think you shouldn’t leave a large gap because people change lanes. Who cares if they change lanes. Why does it matter.

    3. Speaking of ludicrous positions
“A large gap is NO guarantee of avoiding a collision.”
Thats not why we fucking leave a gap. You cant avoid all collisions, it just minimizes them, and the speed of them. How do you not understand that.

    4. He was tail gating! I couldn’t even. Stop fast enough. That wasn’t a full car length. He needed to stay back more

  8. Old man was looking to pick a fight. First thing he probably said was “jokes on you, I have a dashcam” in a tone of superiority.

    1. +Hawktor9 You have VERY old information. You need 3 seconds of space between you and the car in front on the highway and at least 1 second of space in the city. 3 car lengths on the highway is nothing. You would hit the car in front before you even got on the brake pedal. Please look up some info online. Braking distance is no joke.

    1. Learn the law. Tailgating, which was not the case here, does not give the lead car the right to intentionally cause a collision. That is a criminal action.

    2. Evrp Pop Same in the UK. Driving instructors and theory tests teach a two-second rule in normal conditions and four-second rule in heavy rain.

  9. The elderly chap with the dashcam.. sorry mate you’re at fault, you were far to close, you were tailgating the car in front.

    1. Why do people say it is tailgating? The collision occurred at a fucking stoplight/intersection.. if people think that is tailgating they need to fucking go back to driving school.

In fact here in my area of the US, the police actually sometimes do pull people over for leaving too much space at traffic lights.. it creates traffic impediment issues and slows down overall flow.. basic rule of thumb I learned is if you are at an stoplight/intersection and coming to a stop or pulling away you should have at most one full size car length between you and the person in front.. at a complete stop you should not be able to fit a car between bumpers and you should be pulled right up. once at speed, then you should create distance.. whatever rule works for you, usually there is no legal set standards.. it varies depending on area and speed and traffic.. but say typical 60mph highway speed, 3 car lengths or 3 seconds is a common rule of thumb… not a written law.

The police only care about reckless tailgating in most scenarios they will over look minor tailgating unless they about to miss a quota..

    2. US laws dont apply here you fucking idiot. You must leave a gap even at stop lights, its to stop exactly this scenario plus also reducing the risk of a rear end involving multiple vehicles as one is pushed into the next.

    3. Private User – no, it was the fault of the guy in front. Hitting hit brakes for no reason to cause an accident is illegal.

  10. Never tell them you have a dash cam. Let them take it through insurance and get found out then have a fraud against their name

    1. its one of those crimes where we, law abiding people pay the cost. They estimate here in the UK that 30% of insurance cost is because of scammers and crime. no but i’m thinking about it, half of your driving happens behind you right? i know people who have been involved in accidents and actually been told by the insurance company had they not had video evidence then they would probably not have paid out!!

Really? i thought Honk Kong was glad to get rid of the British rule? After Brexit i think we are going to need to more than ever, the EU will be putting every obstacle in our way.

hahahahaha yes ive seen them, some of them are so funny! i don’t think they will be winning any Oscars for the acting though.

p.s they say Bradofrd is the “crash for cash” capital”. i think you will find this film very interesting…

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=0Efj7aqYu4o

    2. GREAT idea!! I never thought to do that, then THEIR insurance is null and void in perpetuity, (one assumes) … BRILLIANT!!

    3. ya Cameron Finch , if no British rule on HKG, here is still a city under rule by law, full of scam as same as the terrible China, but now under rule of law. We miss the Queen very much.

But in this film, the scammed driver is really stupid ha !

    4. I had a small accident here in the USA where an old woman ran a STOP sign and hit the side of my car, very lightly. The woman was lying saying I changed lanes without signaling so it is my fault. I had a dash camera and it did not show the the woman as she came from the side but it did show that I did not change lanes and had the date/time stamp. Within 20 minutes of me sending in the video, they found her guilty and agreed to pay the repair. I just wish they mark her somewhere in their computer that their own customer was lying to their investigator. They make you agree by voice signature that your statement is true, and she lied.
